The brief/project
Restrictions placed upon listed buildings mean that any significant alterations or additions must be comprehensively planned and approved. To this end, LDS were asked to carry out a full internal and external survey of the building in order to allow the design team to formulate plans that would enhance the building and be acceptable to planners
The solution
Our team carried out the survey primarily with 3D laser scanners. A total station was also used to survey scan targets and provide survey control, thereby ensuring best accuracy of data. Site work was completed in one day, with the data outputted as a point cloud of 3D information from which floor plans and external elevations were produced
The outcome
The delivery of our CAD drawings, together with the accompanying interactive imagery, provided the client with a reliable and accurate basis for designs. Having viewed the data, the client was then able to request additional information in the form of a series of cross sections through the building at critical points. Having already collected all this information whilst scanning, it was possible to produce the cross sections without needing to return to site. Our survey helped this fantastic building navigate the next step in its history
